National Technology Leadership Summit Emerging Leaders Program

The National Technology Leadership Summit (NTLS) brings together national leaders in education and educational technology for two days of working sessions that address the most pressing issues in our field. Attendees of this invitation-only summit include presidents of educational associations, editors of educational technology journals, directors of non-profit foundations, federal policy makers, and corporate representatives.

NTLS believes in the transformational potential of groups of leaders, particularly when those groups include those with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. NTLS also recognizes that, like many fields, educational leadership does not reflect the diversity of its organizations’ constituent members or the students who we aim to serve. In support of this belief, NTLS is proud to introduce the NTLS Emerging Leaders Program. The objective of this initiative is to identify and support doctoral students/early career faculty of diverse backgrounds and perspectives as they become the next generation of leaders in our field.

Emerging Leaders are doctoral students/early career faculty who have shown potential to become leaders in their chosen education-related field. They leverage their diverse backgrounds and perspectives as they work with others to address issues in education and educational technology. They may be on track to move into the professoriate, the public sphere, or into private industry. They are eager to learn about the challenges and opportunities of education in the 21st century, willing to work to address those issues, and comfortable making personal connections with others.

Each year, NTLS Emerging Leaders will receive an invitation to attend NTLS as full participants. As such, they will work with fellow attendees in small working groups that extend well beyond the two-day summit. At the summit, they will attend various leadership networking events. In addition, the Emerging Leaders will have continuing access to summit participants who will serve as leadership mentors.

Expectations for Associations:

Your association will be primarily responsible for selecting one Emerging Leader in consultation with NTLS leadership. Your association’s Emerging Leader will shadow your representative at NTLS, attending working sessions, the Presidents’ Dinner, and other networking events with your representative. Your association will also pledge up to $1500 to support your Emerging Scholar’s travel to Washington, D.C. for the summit, two nights in a hotel, and a per diem based on GSA rates.
